The library offers a wide selection of books, magazines, newspspers, book on tapes, CDs, DVD and VHS, as well as digital books and interlibrary loans.  Computers and wi-fi are available.  Services also include story times, Lego Club, summer reading programs, youth and adult book clubs, and puzzle check outs.  A meeting room can be reserved.  A book sale is held annually in April and October, but books can also be purchased throughout the year in The Book Nook.

Holton Community Hospital Auxiliary

The Auxiliary’s role is to enhance the patients’ experience.  They provide funds for remodeling and updating, for stuffed bears to be given to young patients, and for new mother gifts.  Fundraisers are held throughout the year – a soup lunch in the Fall, a candy and cookie sale in the Winter, and a 5k run in the Spring.  They also operate the pop and snack machines at the hospital entrance. Dues are $10/year.

Opportunities include:
*attending the general meetings (1st Tuesday every four months - January, April, July, and October) at noon, downstairs
*serving on the board
*volunteering for fundraisers and projects

 

Lions Club

The Lions Club members help where and when needed.  Working with eye sight is a large focus, but so are making donations to help other organizations and helping with projects around the community.  High school scholarships are given every year, and a Farmer of the Year is awarded.  To raise funds for projects and donations, a Golf Tournament is held in the Spring as well as selling hamburgers and having a Garden Tractor Pull at Glory Days.  The joining fee is $25.  Yearly dues are $106.50 for regular members and $62.50 for family members.

*attending bi-monthly meetings (2nd and 4th Tuesdays, 6pm at Your Place or Mine, meal $9)
*volunteering for fundraisers and projects

The mission at Thrive! is to reduce poverty by building skills and relationships that strengthen families and individuals.  The vision is to alleviate generational poverty in Jackson County Kansas.  All economic levels are joining together - Those in poverty attend a weekly workshop and are paired with middle- and upper-class mentors in intentional friendships.  This program is available at no cost and also includes a meal and childcare during workshops.

Opportunities include:
*being a mentor
*volunteering for childcare or youth program
*volunteering for a meal (great for groups!)
*volunteering in communications or fund development
*serving on the board
*recruiting Leaders (individuals/families in poverty)
*volunteering as a facilitator for workshops
